Asda awards three-year renewal to Wincanton for Doncaster and Larne

Asda has awarded a three-year contract renewal until early 2016 to supply chain services specialist Wincanton for the management and operation of its distribution centres in Doncaster and Larne.

Wincanton took on the management of the Larne distribution centre in 2005 to manage warehousing and distribution services to Asda’s 16 stores in Northern Ireland. When Asda commissioned its first national distribution centre for general merchandise in 2007, Wincanton was awarded the contract to operate the 655,000 sq ft new build site in Doncaster. The operation delivers to Asda distribution centres across the UK & Northern Ireland, handling over 10,000 product lines.

Commenting on the partnership, Asda Distribution Director, Ian Stansfield, said: “Wincanton has demonstrated a real partnership approach with the Asda team and a strong commitment to driving efficiencies and helping us to reduce our carbon footprint in our distribution operations. Both the Doncaster and Larne sites have delivered excellent service levels to our stores and the Wincanton team work seamlessly with the Asda business to develop solutions to support this rapidly changing business. It is a measure of our confidence in Wincanton that we have not only awarded them the contract to operate our new Distribution Centre in Rochdale but also extend our current contractual relationship at these existing distribution centres.”

Guy Elliott, Managing Director Contract Logistics at Wincanton said: “We are delighted confirm the renewal of all our business with Asda, which recognises the hard work that both our teams have put into making the operations high performing and successful and where we are able to work in a spirit of true partnership.”
