Barca explosion kills one

An explosion in Port of Barcelona on 21 January left one person dead and one other injured.

The incident happened at 10.13am in the Tepsa oil storage facility when workers for a subcontractor company were carrying out maintenance work on a tank at the terminal, located on the Muelle de la EnergĂa.

Fourteen Barcelona firefighter crews were deployed to the area, and were able to extinguish the fire. At the same time, a check of the affected area was carried out with all available means, including drones, to carry out a risk assessment and secure the area to speed up the entry of security forces and judicial investigators.

Tepsa specialises in the storage of chemical products, biofuels, agri-food and strategic reserves and has been operating in Port of Barcelona since 1964.
