New SIAS Level 2 Diploma launched for bulk storage operations

A new Level 2 Diploma in Bulk Storage Operations has been launched to raise professional standards and support career development across the UK bulk storage sector.

The qualification was developed collaboratively by the Safety in the Storage of Chemicals (SIAS), Reynolds Training Services (RTS), and the Tank Storage Association (TSA). It provides a structured pathway for those entering operational roles or seeking to progress within the sector.

The diploma covers core areas including health and safety, environmental compliance, teamwork, and emergency response, equipping learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely and effectively in bulk storage facilities.

John Reynolds, managing director of RTS, said the qualification “directly supports safe, future-ready operations and enables the demonstration of competent performance, while providing a clear career pathway within the sector.”

Steve Smith, managing director of SIAS, added that the programme “sets a new standard for skills in bulk storage operations, combining technical knowledge with a focus on safety, sustainability, communication and teamwork.”

Peter Davidson, chief executive of the TSA, said the diploma “supports the development of a skilled, confident and adaptable workforce, whether entering the industry or seeking progression in their roles.”

The launch is part of the wider Shaping Competence Together initiative, which aims to connect education, industry, and safety leadership to meet the evolving needs of the bulk storage sector.

Learners who complete the programme will receive a recognised Level 2 qualification, providing a foundation for careers in bulk storage, process operations, and related technical fields.
