Dirks Group makes significant acquisition
WEW Westerwälder Eisenwerk has been acquired by the Dirks Group, marking a significant turning point for the long‑established specialist in military fuel and water container systems.
The deal follows Thielmann AG’s decision to divest its Defence & Security division, with the transaction completed through a series of asset deals that transferred business operations, the Weitefeld site and all associated military intellectual property to Dirks.
The acquisition secures the future of the Weitefeld facility, which had faced uncertainty in recent years, and ensures the continuation of its core expertise in producing deployable tank container systems for NATO forces, including the Bundeswehr and the US Army.
With more than 3,000 units in service, WEW is regarded as the largest supplier of military tank containers within NATO.
Under Dirks Defence & Security, the company will not only maintain its existing service portfolio but also expand production of fuel and potable water containers for military applications. The Dirks Group has signalled plans for substantial investment in infrastructure and staffing to strengthen the site’s long‑term capabilities.
The takeover is viewed as a strategic fit for Dirks, whose wider defence division already includes several specialist engineering and vehicle technology firms.
The integration of WEW further broadens its offering in tank service, maintenance and containerised logistics solutions.
