DHL – driving sustainable bulk logistics

DHL has steadily become a major player in bulk logistics despite being best known as a global logistics integrator.

DHL Ocean Bulk offers a range of services for bulk shippers, first and foremost, through bespoke in-house manufacturing of flexitanks and their component parts, supported by a global shipping network.

Bulk Distributor sat down with Andrew Watson, Head of DHL Ocean Bulk, and Commercial Director Chris Stockwell to find out more about the division’s service offering, and crucially its drive towards creating sustainable supply chains.

DHL owns five factories in Asia, Europe and Africa, and sources its flexitanks from these sites, including a PE film blowing site that ensures quality feedstocks for the manufacture of DHL’s suite of flexitanks.

An integral part of DHL’s offering is informing customers of the climate impact of different transport modes and fuel choices made on particular lanes.

To this end, DHL conducted a third party Life Cycle Analysis comparing flexitanks and ISO tanks across three scenarios, namely short, medium and long transits.
