Mauser Packaging Solutions opens new facility at BASF site

Mauser Packaging Solutions has expanded its reconditioning and recycling footprint in Spain with the opening of a new on-site facility at the BASF location in Tarragona.

This investment strengthens the partnership between BASF and Mauser Packaging Solutions shaping the packaging supply to achieve economic and ecological savings.

Equipped with state-of-the-art, resource-efficient technology, the site reconditions intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) and produces high-quality post-consumer resin (PCR) material from industrial plastic packaging that has reached the end of its life cycle.

Byoperating directly within the BASF site, the facility enhances freight and operational efficiencies, reducing carbon emissions for both companies and maximising manufacturing synergies.

“This new facility represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainability and service excellence,” said Michael Steubing, president at Mauser International Packaging Solutions. “Our partnership with BASF allows both companies to drive innovation, improve speed to market, and better support the collection and reuse of reconditioned packaging in the region.”

Reconditioned IBCs will not only be used by BASF, but also by other customers in the region, offering a more sustainable packaging solution. Additionally, the site holds BAM 11027 (reconditioning) and BAM 14817 (cross-bottling) certifications by the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, thus ensuring the facility meets specific standards for the safe transport and handling of dangerous goods.

“By operating within customer sites, we can ensure the highest quality and safety standards while leveraging synergies such as advanced water treatment and green energy services,” said Frank Burger, head of SHEQ Mauser International.
