Qualitech Environmental Services takes delivery of new Volvos
Qualitech Environmental Services has taken delivery of two new Volvo FM Globetrotter 8×4 Tridem rigids, equipped with ADR-certified Disab vacuum tanker bodies.
The high-tech vehicles are believed to be the first of their kind operating in the UK. The Saint Helens based business will use the two new trucks to move heavy waste materials, often hazardous waste, from customer sites across the UK.
Danny Casey, Managing Director at Qualitech Environmental Services, said: “The Volvo chassis is the perfect fit for the heavy-duty Disab equipment we needed to get on the back. “These ADR-certified units are very specialist bits of equipment, unique in our industry.
“The support we’ve had from the team at Volvo has been fantastic throughout the build process and we are delighted with the finished product.”
Supplied by Anthony Walsh, Customer Solutions Manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials, the Volvo FM rigids are powered by Euro-VI compliant D13K Step E engines, producing 500 hp and 2500 Nm of torque.
Driven through Volvo’s proven 12-speed I-Shift transmission – that delivers perfectly-timed gear changes in a fraction of a second – the new trucks benefit from a hydraulic steered tag axle which improves manoeuvrability and also helps reduce tyre wear.
Qualitech opted for a high chassis specification, with rear air suspension, to aid ground clearance when working off-road.
The Globetrotter cabs of the new FM rigids are painted in Millenium Silver Metallic and complemented with the company’s orange signwriting that was completed by Vinyline Signs & Graphics. Inside the cabs, Drive ++ and Single Bed Living packages add creature comforts including leather seats and leather steering wheel, adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt, full electric air conditioning with sun, mist and air quality sensor, 28-litre fridge, microwave oven and a comfy lower fixed bunk with a wide middle section.
