Following a successful trial, the ferry now operates entirely on Biofuel B30, cutting lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by around 20% compared with traditional marine fuel.
The news comes as Peter Hebblethwaite, former CEO of P&O Ferries, recently resigned from his position, effective 1 September 2025.
His departure followed widespread criticism stemming from the company’s 2022 decision to dismiss 800 staff members via Zoom and replace them with lower-paid agency workers.
P&O Ferries stated that he chose to step down to “dedicate more time to family matters.”
Hebblethwaite admitted to UK lawmakers that the company deliberately broke the law when it dismissed the staff.
When asked if he would make the same decision again, Hebblethwaite stated: “We weren’t viable before, and I know that if we hadn’t made radical changes the business would have closed.”
The company expressed gratitude for his contributions during his tenure.
