Certas Energy plans £1.5m bunker network upgrade

Certas Energy has announced plans to invest £1.5 million redeveloping five HGV refuelling bunker sites across its UK network over the next 12 months.

The programme follows the completion of a £500,000 refurbishment at its Alconbury site in Cambridgeshire, which reopened on 14 May. Upgrades there include eight new high-speed fuel nozzles dispensing up to 120 litres per minute, new card readers, security improvements and HVO dispensing infrastructure — making Alconbury the 17th site in Certas Energy’s 30-strong bunker network to offer the alternative fuel. A £80,000 drive-through truck wash upgrade has also been completed at the site in partnership with UK Truck Clean, with further works including a shop upgrade and rebrand planned for August.

The sites offer diesel, AdBlue and HVO alongside compatibility with all major digital fuel cards, including the company’s own FuelTapp platform.

Mike Heaton, Head of Estate Development at Certas Energy, said the investment reflects the importance of upgrading existing infrastructure alongside building new capacity. “We want to make sure that every location we operate is equipped for the future, including the ability to offer new fuels, while keeping the refuelling process smooth, efficient and comfortable for HGV drivers,” he said.

Certas Energy has also added two new truckstop sites in 2026, with security and facilities standards modelled on its award-winning Stop at The Hollies location.
