Tanker Rent UK appoints Paul Merchant as head of waste and industrial

Tanker Rent UK has appointed Paul Merchant as head of waste and Industrial, bringing extensive hire-market experience and first-hand knowledge of running the specialist vehicles used by waste and drainage operators.

Paul’s experience running a waste and industrial fleet gives him direct insight into how operators select, use and manage specialist tankers, which will help shape the vehicles Tanker Rent UK sources and the support customers receive.

Tanker Rent UK draws on more than 25 years of experience in the fuel tanker rental market and has been supplying waste, drainage and industrial customers for more than a year. Its growing range includes gully tankers, combination jet-vacs, vacuum tankers, recyclers and other specialist vehicles.

Paul joins Tanker Rent UK from Ermin Plant, where he was commercial manager and hired a wide range of plant, vehicles and specialist equipment.

Lennon Compton, managing director of Tanker Rent UK, said: “We are building a strong customer base in waste and industrial hire, and I wanted the person leading this part of the business to understand the market from an operator’s point of view.

“Paul has been responsible for running the same types of vehicles our customers use. He understands the work they carry out, the challenges they face and what they need from a hired unit once it arrives.

Paul Merchant said: “I’ve spent years helping customers hire almost every type of vehicle, and I’ve also run a large waste and industrial fleet myself. I know these vehicles, I know the work they are used for and I understand why the details of the specification matter.
“For me, every hire starts with what the vehicle needs to do. Gully tanker, jet-vac or vacuum tanker might be the headline, but that alone doesn’t tell you whether a unit will work for the job. You need to understand the operation and ask the right questions.

“Customers can talk to me about the job without having to explain the basics, and we can get straight into the vehicle and the details that makes their job easier.”
