Transpetro expands into road fuel transport with renewable diesel tanker fleet

Transpetro, the logistics subsidiary of Brazilian state oil company Petrobras, is moving into road transport with a fleet of 33 tanker trucks running on renewable-content diesel.

The company is investing R$43 million in the fleet, which is due to begin operating in January 2027. Transpetro is best known for its tanker vessels moving Brazil’s crude oil.

The trucks will run on Diesel R, a Petrobras fuel that includes renewable content derived from vegetable oils or animal fats. Day-to-day operations will be run by fuel logistics specialist Budel Transportes, in partnership with Transpetro.

The first two routes, both in southern Brazil, will move bunker and fuel oil under contract with Petrobras. In Paraná state, trucks will carry around 36,000 tonnes a month between the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar) in Araucária and the Paranaguá Terminal (Tepar). In Rio Grande do Sul, around 18,000 tonnes a month will travel between the Alberto Pasqualini Refinery (Refap) and the Niterói Terminal (Tenit) in Canoas.

Transpetro president Sergio Bacci said the road service would mainly connect with logistics assets across the Petrobras system and provide last-mile delivery.

Transpetro is also preparing to enter inland waterway transport, having bought barges to carry bunker fuel. Barge operations will begin in Rio de Janeiro, with services also planned for Santos, Belém, Paranaguá and Rio Grande.
