Wincanton puts pioneering double-decker trailers on the road

Britain’s largest logistics firm Wincanton has partnered with kitchen and joinery specialist Magnet to deliver a UK first in vehicle design.

Wincanton has invested £2 million in the innovative new double-decker articulated trailers with the aim of creating a faster and more fuel efficient supply chain. The new bespoke-built trailers, which are unique to Magnet in their design, have two decks to maximise the use of every inch of space on every single delivery. They are expected to save £600,000 and over 400,000 miles per year, cutting CO2 emissions by 700 tonnes annually, while delivering the same quantity of products.

Paul Durkin, Director of Home and DIY at Wincanton, said: “Magnet and Wincanton are together leading the industry in using cutting-edge engineering and design to streamline the supply chain. The innovative new trailers ensure Magnet has one of the most efficient and effective delivery teams in the country.

“Magnet’s improved delivery service and efficiency demonstrates Wincanton’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of supply chain innovation, adding value to our customers’ operations with continuous improvement and customer care as an absolute priority.”
