MOL acquires LBC Tank Terminals to expand chemical logistics business
Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) announced it has completed the acquisition of all membership rights in LBC Tank Terminals Group Holding Netherlands Coöperatief U.A.
The deal, finalised on June 30 after receiving approval from relevant authorities, marks a major expansion of MOL’s chemical logistics capabilities.
Rotterdam-based LBC, one of the world’s largest tank terminal operators, joins MOL’s growing portfolio following previous acquisitions of Nordic Tankers in 2019 and Fairfield Chemical Carriers in 2024.
With this move, MOL integrates onshore tank storage with its existing marine transportation services, positioning itself to better meet diverse customer needs and stabilise revenue, in line with its “BLUE ACTION 2035” strategy.
MOL President & CEO Takeshi Hashimoto said the acquisition strengthens the company’s transformation into a “social infrastructure service provider” and supports future growth in next-generation energy logistics, such as ammonia and CO₂.
“We are excited to welcome LBC to the MOL Group,” said Hashimoto. “Combining our global reach with LBC’s operational expertise will create new value for our customers and society.”
LBC CEO Frank Erkelens also expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting shared values and a commitment to innovation and sustainability. “Together, we are uniquely positioned to deliver on our ambitions for growth and a sustainable future,” he said.
The acquisition signals MOL’s commitment to expanding its role in energy transition and global chemical logistics.
